Lauren depicts a struggle that not only older siblings, but also parents, go through on the daily! Getting a child into bed isn't the easiest, especially when they have an imagination like Lola! I think Lauren does an awesome job with her witty and quirky words and creative illustrations. She keeps the reader engaged at all times, as always. Her words popping off the page and getting louder or quieter as you read is truly so fun! I love that yet again she's chosen to write about a REAL topic. Her stories always seem to put a fun, imaginative twist on a real-life situation- it's my favorite part of her as an author! Although I was not a huge fan of this book, I can see young children really enjoying it. In this story, Charlie has to deal with his younger sister, Lola, not wanting to go to bed. She constantly makes excuses as she tries to draw out mundane bedtime rituals. There is a whale in the bathtub, tigers at the table, and a lion brushing his teeth. I believe Lola's imagination would be found humorous and entertaining to children, and they might even relate to it in some way. However, the dialogue didn't seem to flow smoothly in my opinion. This is simply a playful story, with no true moral or lesson. Lola has quiet an imagination. She is a little girl who doesn't want to go to sleep. Charlie, her older brother, is trying to persuade her into going to sleep by going through the bedtime routine like drinking her milk, brushing her teeth, showering and getting tucked in, but her imaginary animal friends are keeping her from doing these things. She ends up drinking milk with 3 tigers, a lion was using her toothbrush, the whales are in the tub, the dancing dogs have er pj's, and the story ends with her finally in bed and a hippo in Charlie's bed. I Am Not Sleepy and I Will Not Go to Bed is about a young girl named Lola who never wants to go to bed because she's never tired. She would rather stay up late and play around. Her sibling Charlie is forced to try and put her to bed. Every step Charlie tries to take to put Lola to bed is followed by and excuse on why she can't. For example, if she drinks strawberry milk, her tiger friends need a glass too. She can't brush her teeth because a lion is using it. She can't take a bath because there is whales In the tub. The excuses just kept going and going and Charlie needed to fix them all. I thought this was a great and funny book because it's a very true statement with children not want to do something and having a million excuses why. Their excuses aren't that extravagant though. Lola was a funny character and I enjoyed the book and I'm sure a classroom of students would too. But, I don't see the personal lesson children can learn from it besides go to bed when you're told. The illustrations were done very well also. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
