Pretty coherent as a graphic novel, Gunnerkrigg Court is, nevertheless, pretty ragged. The art is, to be frank, ugly and amateurish, and the characters one note (Antimony is stoic, Kat is bubbly). I don't mid the small chapters/storylines, since it makes the world feel lived-in, but it causes the overall plot line to suffer, since there's so much material that isn't necessarily important. (Slightly unrelated: the binding on my copy [Archaia 2015] is terrible; about a quarter of the way through the spine split away, and one drop caused every single page top be knocked loose. I know it's a fairly thick comic, but there are more secure ways to attach plenty of pages to a spine.) sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

Antimony Carver is a precocious and preternaturally self-possessed young girl starting her first year of school at gloomy Gunnerkrigg Court, a very British boarding school that has robots running around along side body-snatching demons, forest gods, and the odd mythical creature. It's a fairly typical magic school kind of thing, with a pair of girl students forming a friendship and facing all sort of supernatural creatures and perils as they try to sort out all the secrets of the school and their parents. The art and characters are oddly endearing and the mythology is confusing but enticing, with the trickster god Coyote hanging around ready to add to the chaos. ( )
