Princess Molly is a messy girl who won't clean her room. The King and Queen are neat and clean. They are always complaining about her room. One day, there is a flood and the King and Queen have to move into their daughters room. Luckily she has food, clothes and bedding for everyone. When the flood is over, they clean up the castle; however let Molly keep her room messy still. ( )

This is a story of a royal family that are all very clean and organized, except the young princess. Her room is always a mess. She told her family that she likes it that way. She can find things when they are needed and it is like little suprises. One day the kingdom floods the castle. The family must go to the princesses room because it is the highest up. They had to stay there for a few days. Due to the messy room they were able to stay comfortably because there was old food that they ate, clothes to wear, games to play, etc. This made the family appreciate her messy room. In the end the family went back to being themselves but did not focus on cleaning so much. I thought that this book was ok, my daughter loved it, but this is probably because her room is a mess. The illustrations were well done and in a whimisical fashion.

A charming children's book by Anne Tyler (her first one), in which a very messy princess in a very tidy royal family has the opportunity to prove that there are advantages to being not so neat. Lovely illustrations also. ( )
