Any child, even if they do not like poetry, will love this. It is easy to read and hilarious. I think children would enjoy reading these poems. ( )

Summary:

"A Bad Case of the Giggles: Kids Pick the Funniest Poems, Book #2" by Bruce Lansky is a collection of poems for young children. The poems are very funny and helps the children get introduced into poetry. The topics in the collection of poems are family, school, food, and animals. The poems even have tongue twisters, which will help the children when speaking.

Personal Reaction:

This collection of books, I believe, are great for young children because it will catch all of their attention. If the children enjoy the poems, they will remember them and enjoy having to do more poems in the future.

Classroom Extension:

1. Have the students try to make up their own tongue twister; have the students try to say it.

2. Have the students explain to me which poem was their favorite and why it was their favorite.

This book is full if humorous poems for young children. It has poems about family, food, school, animals, and even tongue twisters.

I think this book would be great for children because it will catch their attention. I have learned that when you are able to catch young children's attention they remember and work harder.

Classroom Activities:
1. I would have break the students up into groups and let them act out their favorite poem from the book.
2. I would have the students try to write their own tongue twister or rhyming poem.
3. I would have the students illustrate a poem and hang it on the bulletin board.

I thought that this poetry book was a good book. I liked this book for multiple reasons. First, I liked how the book is divided up into different categories or sections. Some of the categories are “All About Me”, “Off to School We Go”, “What’s for Dinner?”, and “Critters”. Each one of these topics has a bunch of poems that goes along with the theme. Second, I like that the poems are humorous. One poem was called “I Love You Not” and funny details and rhyming words. For example, the poem said “If you were a dog I would give you a bite. If you were a witch I would give you a fright”. I like how each line rhymes and how the topics are so original. Third, I like the illustrations in the book. All of the illustrations are in black and white which I thought was different and unique. It makes the poems calm and not distracted by the illustrations. One illustration that I really liked went along with a poem called “Fast Food”. The illustration was a drawing of three witches with warts, witches hats, and big noses. The picture did a great job depicting witches and even had a caldron and a black cat. Part of this poem says, “They stir things in a caldron and slap them on a dish, hot pimple-breaded lizards and moldy cactus fish. I also like the descriptive language used in these poems such as “moldy cactus fish”. Overall, I think the main idea of this book is to provide children with humorous poems that they can relate to their own lives. ( )
