Subtitled: "Lost in the Snow", this was his 21st adventure for young people; probably published about 1867. If you like Ballantyne stories, I think you'll like this one. It is set in North America, as are a lot of his stories, and is a treatment of the trials of a pre-teen brother and sister who got themselves lost in the snow on New Years Day, picked up by a wandering band of marauding indians, alone again and subsisting on the shores of a beautiful lake, stumbled on by their father, and finally returned to their home and mother on New Years Day. It moves quickly, doesn't dwell on the difficulties or the religious too much, and there is experience that is informative. Typical Ballantyne and enjoyable to read.
