Corduroy at the Zoo by Don Freeman is a fun, interactive children’s book that I enjoyed very much. First, I like how colorful and bright the illustrations are. The colors depict what a day at the zoo truly is for a child, fun and happy. I also like how there are a few “lift-the-flap” on each page, allowing the reader to lift a flap to reveal what is hidden behind it. While at the zoo, each animal exhibit illustrated has descriptions about the particular animal that is being viewed, giving the reader interesting facts about the animal they are looking at, such as, “Kangaroos can jump as far as 44 feet. A baby kangaroo is called a joey”. There is no given main idea in this book; it is a bit ironic how a bear is going to the zoo to see animals, when he himself is an animal as well.
