Who has written such volumes of stuff!
Some think him ill-tempered and queer,
But a few think him pleasant enough.
Thus begins the first poem (By Way Of Preface) in this (largely) complete collection of Edward Lear's Nonsense Poems.
Of course we have the limericks themselves,which for me have always lacked the bite in the rest of his work.In terms of my personal favorites I would have to give 'The Owl and the Pussy-Cat' a place. Also 'The Daddy Long-Legs and the Fly'. and 'The table and the Chair'.Another which I love,is 'The Two Old Bachelors',which begins "Two old bachelors were living in one house;
One caught a Muffin,the other caught a Mouse.
All in all a lovely collection of Nonsense,which can be read again and again with very great pleasure. ( )
