In the 1970s Shiva Naipaul travelled to Africa, visiting Kenya, Tanzania and Zambia for several months. Through his experiences, the places he visited and his various encounters, he aimed to discover what "liberation," "revolution" and "socialism" meant to the ordinary people. For more than seventy years, Penguin has been the leading publisher of classic literature in the English-speaking world. With more than 1,700 titles, Penguin Classics represents a global bookshelf of the best works throughout history and across genres and disciplines. Naipaul's younger sibling writes about his travels through Kenya, Tanzania and Zambia in the mid 70s. His style of writing would best be defined as serious though not as acerbic as his better known sibling's with even some idiomatic prose sprinkled in between to lighten up the scenery.

To sum it up, what the author has tried to highlight is perhaps the tenuous relations between white, black and brown with the contest being mainly between the former two and the latter being viewed as total outsiders and exploiters. I think the Asians are partly to blame for this given the way they tried to impose their own caste system on the blacks and having to reap the whirlwind of backlashes in post-independence africa.
