Summary
This book is about a mouse family that loves to watch TV. However one problem that they face is that they cant agree on one show. They would argue and fight and wake up poor baby mouse. One day the TV broke and they were all forced to do different stuff.

Personal reaction
It was a really cute book. I enjoyed reading each page. I liked the illustration of the different TV shows that were possible. I also enjoyed that at the end of the book the baby mouse had a light bulb in her crib which most likely belonged to the TV.

Classroom Extension
1. The students could recreate a TV show that they enjoy and perform it in front of the class.
2.The students could create a poster marketing their favorite TV show.

Summary
The mouse family enjoyed watching television but could not agree on what to watch. Some family members liked to watch scary movies while others liked comedy. It was a constant struggle for the family to decide on a show. Until one day , the television stopped working and the mouse family had to decide how to entertain themselves. They played games and put on a play as well as making faces at one another. At the end, they read a book that they all enjoyed and no one argued. They were spending quality family time.
Personal Reaction
I thought the story was great! I enjoyed the illustrations because they were so vivid and told the story on their own. The mouse family reminds me of my family because I like to watch scary movies and my husband likes to watch thrillers. Our kids all like comedy so it's a constant battle to what we are going to watch at the end. I liked how the author brought the mouse family together thanks to the television breaking. They found different activities to pass the time which they enjoyed. At the end the mouse family reads a book and brings them all together. I think all families should end their evenings with a good book.
Classroom Extension Ideas
1.Can be used in "family" unit plan to discuss what brings families together.
2.Create chart on favorite types of shows the students like to watch.
3.Discussion about what real mice families do.

Humour! Each member of the mouse family has its own preference, when it comes to watching TV (mouse TV, by the way!) Between action, comedy, history, mystery, science, horror, music, sports, education, travel ... how do you go about pleasing everyone. There's not a lot of words here, the detailed illustrations say it all, but this may be most appropriate for 4 - 8 year olds, they will want to linger over the pictures. ( )

The mouse family can never decide on what to watch on TV, as each member has his or her own preference of genre. One night the TV doesn't work, and the family has an excellent evening doing other activities with something to satisfy everyone. This is a great book for "Turn Off the TV" week or any time when we need a reminder of all the fun things that can happen when we get off the couch. The illustrations are really fun, especially the cat and mouse jokes they contain. ( )

A family of mice have trouble deciding what to watch on TV. But then there TV breaks and they find that they have more fun doing different activities. The characters are a family of mice that all have distinct hairstyles. The plot starts out with the family not being able to decide what type of television show to watch. This sections of the book is very entertaining because examples of the different programs are shown in a comic book like form. The setting is very much a mouse centered world, the villians in the TV shows are mostly cats and a lot of cheese is shown. Novak creates a conflict in the plot by having none of the family members being able to decide what type of program they should watch. The first half of the book’s illustrations are done in a comic book style and the second the illustrations are much bigger and include every mouse in the family. Novak’s text is short and simple and each sentence or each half of the sentence is paired up with a similar sentence so that they fit together well. The theme of the book is that too much TV is bad for you. I found this theme to be a little too strong, and I actually found the TV sections of the book to be the most entertaining and original. The illustrations complement the text very well and are very entertaining. ( )
