Gevallen in de Herfst - Minette Walters
An elderly woman pushes her abusive husband down the stairs. Really the only nice story in the collection, not so much a whodunit as a calm, quiet story of how one can solve one's own problems in a less than conventional way.
Katja - Luifel&Luifel
A girl disappears after she witnesses a murder. Luifel & Luifel, a father-son duo, have to find her. Uninteresting and mainly made me very annoyed at how incredibly incompetent the police is. One can only hope the actual police force does it's work better than this!
Een Val van het Dak - Sue Grafton
Predictable and not very interesting, though better than the second story. A man comes to a detective and asks her to prove that his brother was murdered. She finds a murderous bookclub and stumbles into danger in a very amateurish way.
De Taal van de Vogel - Russen
A handicapped young man is found stabbing the dead body of his mother. He is sedated and put in an institution, but was he really the killer? An interesting premise, and an interesting outcome. The story isn't very well written and the character descriptions are bland and unnecessary, but it's short enough for it to be ok.
All in all, not a very great collection. I'm not enthousiastic about Grafton, and the Luifel&Luifel and Russen stories only make me convinced that I never need to watch Dutch television again (the stories are both based on Dutch tv-series). ( )
