This is an interesting example of fantasy because it is only mildly fantasy. It is almost not clear. The shell seems to talk but it is not evident that it might not just be Granny pretending. The character of Granny is dynamic in a of way. She goes from hungry and desperate to full and at peace. The text is also set on a Caribbean Island and that effects the prsence of the shell and the concept of Kallaloo
