Whatever author says on that matter (if she say at all) there is a great Firefly feel to it. Not a fanfic. Just inspiration. Something in the world, story, characters, rhythm.

This is both good and bad of course. With every other piece in place the book is just lacks that visual impact of the TV show. It brings out in the open that naive something that was very good hidden in Firefly.

And then... maybe it's just me. Maybe I just could not fell in rhythm with the book. ( )

There are a lot of interesting ideas and concepts in this book but the writing and the characters are hot garbage.

Edit: I remember nothing about this anymore so I'll give it another try.
well, dnf again. I remember again. Really great concepts but the TSTL goes through the roof. Not from the MC herself but from everyone around her.
The entire plot setup is way too contrived for it to work without an endless amount of absurd excuses and flimsy justifications for every detail. ( )

I will take a guess and say this book was heavily influenced by Joss Whedon's Firefly series because it felt very similar. Very fast-paced science fiction space opera, complete with despotic overlord-type organization that rules the universe. Most excellent. ( )

Sirantha Jax has a genetic mutation which makes her one of the few people who can navigate through deep space, called grimspace, which means she’s an in-demand spaceship navigator. Her spaceship crashes and she loses her memory, which means she has to meet all of her crewmates again, and is blamed for the crash but can’t defend herself. Then there’s some conspiracy stuff.

Not a good space opera; not a good romance. Too complicated but not interesting enough to keep my attention, even in audio. It’s dated down to the minute - space of the future has marriage for straight couples but state-recognized civil unions for gay couples - slutshame-y, and includes a few instances of the ableist r-slur. The romance was not particularly compelling and felt shoehorned in. The most enjoyable parts were when Jax was re-meeting her crewmates that she already loved, but I can read Becky Chambers for that. The audiobook narrator was fine. ( )

It starts with action, ends with action and the pages are full of ACTION. It is edgy and mostly fast paced. There are life & death conflicts with the Corp. There are a lot of deaths. It is a revolution of sorts. One that Jax and March didn't ever realize they were the center of.
My only complaint, is there are a couple of parts that take to long on the 'internal dialogue'. However, I think most of them were necessary to the whole of the story.
I will be adding Sirantha Jax to my series following file! I am impressed and want to know what comes next in her world. ( )

For Andres. You're the reason I get up in the morning. And sometimes you're the reason I wind up lost in chicken country. Which is better than bat country. This one's for you, like everything I do.

Are you afraid of falling, baby?
No, I’m afraid of landing.
