Lapide (read 25 Nov 2017) This book, by a Jewish theologian and historian, I obtained from a Jewish synagogue library. It was published in 1967 and disputes the claim that is made against Pope Pius XII.. The author speaks well of Pope Pius XI, and discusses at length the matter of Pius XII and whether he should have been more assertive in regard to the Holocaust during World War II. The Pope thought a more assertive condemnation of Nazi evil might have done more harm than good and the author suggests that such a view may be correct. The book also relates the work that Pope John XXIII did in correcting the Church's references to the Jews in Church liturgy and is unstinting in his admiration of John XXIII's actions and career. .There is a Wikipedia article on the author and it quotes from the book re Pope Pius XII and the Holocaust. I found the book well worth reading.
