This was a fun, laugh-out-loud read. Totally and completely irreverent...what else would you expect from a dashing playboy who comes from a family of assassins? A fun read if you are just looking for something fun and lighthearted. ( )

Different narrator than the first book, but he shares that same Bombay sense of irreverence and humor. Some of the situations are not always believable, but when I'm not looking for heavy reading, and am in the mood to simply be entertained, this series seems to be a wonderful choice. ( )

What I Loved: This was such a fun premise for a book. It was funny, witty, and just amazingly heartwarming. The family, even though they are assassins, are quite close and such a huge part of Dakota's life. There are movie quotes, book quotes, and general pop culture references that play well through out the book too.

What I Liked: I really liked all the characters, how they were presented, and the different roles they played in the book. The humor was outstanding and kept me rolling the whole book!

Complaints: The plot was a little predictable but it didn't really hinder the story in a big way.

Why I gave it a 3.5: I really enjoyed reading this book. It is a quick read and the only thing I wish is that I had read the first book before reading this one.

Who I would recommend it too: Contemporary Romance readers that like humor. The story is mostly told from the guy's POV which is unique and I really liked it!

I will admit that the first thing that I noticed about this book was its cover—prominently displayed at the end of a row at the book store. I thought the heart-print boxers were adorable, though I kind of doubt the waist band could actually support the weight of an automatic. The second thing I noticed was the title—considering that my husband gave me a 45 for our 5th anniversary, I was sold.

The book—the second in a series it turns out—is about the Bombay family. The Bombays have a four-thousand-year-old family assassination business and a really strange tradition of naming family members after places: Dakota Bombay, Virginia Bombay, Carolina Bombay, Paris Bombay, Coney Island Bombay . . . you get the idea. The hero of our story is Dakota Bombay, an aging playboy who has been enjoying life partying and sleeping with beautiful, interchangeable blondes, only taking time out to participate in the family business and kill someone a couple of times a year.

Dakota’s happy life is interrupted by his mother, who decides its time for him to give her a grandchild and his grandmother who expects him to actually put his very expensive marketing degree to use to help the family. It seems the Bombays’ business has been falling off in recent years, and grandmother, as part of the council in charge of the family, wants to know why. Since Dakota’s entire marketing “career” has been a cover for his other activities he is underwhelmed by his assignment. As if life cannot get any more confusing, Dakota discovers that he has a six-year-old son that he never knew about and that he is suddenly responsible for—to the delight of his mother.

This was a fun read. There is of course a romantic interest that is, surprise, surprise, not a blonde, who teaches Dakota what relationships are all about and truly cares about his son. Okay, so we’re not talking great literature, but when I pick up this kind of book, I really don’t want to think, I just want to be entertained, and this book was very entertaining with witty dialogue, interesting characters, a fast pace, and a clever plot with some real twists. I look forward to the first book. ( )
