I think this is an excellent book to get your feet wet with the Open Source app Blender. ( )

Intended as a fairly complete introduction to the 3D modelling software package Blender. However, it is rendered almost useless by the small size of its diagrams, which are mostly screenshots of menus in which the options are completely indecipherable (even with a magnifying glass).
I would recommend that you avoid buying this book and instead use the online version (which has reasonable diagrams): http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Books/Essential_Blender_(text) ( )

Great as introductory and reference material. Getting outdated, but there's currently no other books that cover all the basis of blender. ( )
