It is a great book for counting to ten with young children. It shows emotions. It is based upon Easter setting. ( )

I would share this book around the time of Spring Break and Easter. Max is counting his chickens with his sister. His sister ends up having more chickens than Max. The Easter Bunny is called, and Max is delivered a surprise through the mail slot of new chickens. ( )

I'm a big fan of Rosemary Wells and the simplicity in her stories. My 3 year old loves Max and Ruby, my son likes Max and Ruby and even my wife likes Max and Ruby. (She does a KILLER Ruby voice impersonation I might add). The illustrations are like the story- simple, friendly and harken to an older time. Always impressed with Rosemary Wells.

Max and Ruby search the house together to try and find all the pink chicks that are hidden around. As they explore the house counting all the chicks they find, Max once again gets into messes. Even though he doesn't find any chicks himself, his Grandma makes a phone-call so he is not empty handed. I like how they did this concept book where it was much more then just learning your numbers. The illustrations are fantastic and definitely add the crazy messes Max makes. ( )
