Peter Koch, Printer, has produced a small masterpiece with his recent book, Pablo Neruda's Ode to Typography. Consistent with Koch's other work, the design and its accomplishment is balanced, understated, and masterful. The book achieves a synthesis of poetry and visual design, and creates the desired transparency between text and content, between the poem itself and the reader's mediated experience. In such a book, the poem is unencumbered by any distraction of the printed page. Neruda's Ode is the primary object of our attention, and Koch's book enhances the experience. The result is a celebration of the poem as well as a paean to fine printing, and the reader is the beneficiary. ... The artistry and craftsmanship exhibited by all of the participants brings a new interpretation, through book form, to Neruda's poem.
