If you’ve ever enjoyed watching Morse, Lewis or Endeavor on television, this collection of early Morse novels is highly recommended. The relationships between the characters aren’t quite solidified, and the stories aren’t necessarily sequential. But it’s fun to see that first meeting in Last Bus to Woodstock, followed by two later tales where Morse and Lewis work more naturally together. The mysteries are fascinating, logical, and quintessentially English, from English pub to bus-stop to hallowed halls of Oxford. There’s even a stay in hospital with a touch of history in The Wench is Dead!

Slow reading, complex mysteries, and thoughtful investigation; this omnibus is satisfying and thoroughly enjoyable. But now I really want to find the other books!

Disclosure: I found a second hand copy and I love it. ( )

What I do not get about the publishers who put together omnibusses, is why they do not make these multiple-books-in-one in the order of the series of the book?

Why put the first Morse in the third omnibus??? Now I'm stuck with an incomplete series, that I still try to read in order of appearance....

I'm going to rate this book, when I've read all the stories in it, or, out of lack of time, only part of them.

The Last Bus to Woodstock: 4 stars.
I liked the book. Never knew (from the TV-series) though, that Lewis is older than Morse... Didn't appear to be that way.
But, this is not about the series, this is about the book. That read, by the way, as if I were watching an episode of the series.
The same style, the same interaction between Morse and Lewis, I love that. The story itself was very interesting, complicated with many possibilities at first, but one by one all lines are knitted together and the mystery becomes clear.
I hope the other books will continue in this style :-) ( )

Good book. Morse is fantastic and Lewis as Dr. Watson to Morses, Holmes. ( )
