Mrs. Brown Went To Town is a wonderful children’s picture book by Wong Herbert Yee. This book is chock full of great word play and beautiful illustrations. The story begins with Mrs. Brown taking a trip to the hospital because of a nasty fall from a bike. While Mrs. Brown is in the hospital her farm animals decide to take over her house. The animals dress up in her outfits, have a lavish dinner (lavish for animals), and play in the bath. Mrs. Brown comes home and goes to her room to get some rest. Little does she know that her room is full of the farm animals. All this weight in her room causes the bed to crash through the floor with all of the animals and Mrs. Brown on top of it. Paramedics and the fire department rush to the house, and take both her and all of the farm animals to the hospital. The book then depicts them all lying together in a hospital with casts on, preparing to go home. Upon going home Mrs. Brown moves into the barn with the animals because her house has been destroyed. Although the ending may sound a little sad, Mrs. Brown in no way seems distraught about living in the barn, nor does she seem upset having had to travel to and from the hospital twice in a 24 hour period. Overall I loved this book, I would highly recommend this book for any children in kindergarten to fifth grade. Between the hilarity of the story, the rhyming word play, and the beautiful images I would rate this picture book 5 out of 5 stars. Although there was no clear central message to me, one that you could take away from it would be to always be happy with what you have. Through her multiple trips to the hospital, the loss of her house, and the bad behavior or her farm animals, Mrs. Brown kept a smile on her face and a seemingly great attitude. No matter what happened to her, she just seemed to stay happy. Overall this book was great and I would highly recommend it to any beginner reader ( )

"Mrs. Brown Went to Town" is a cute, humorous, poetry book that I think kids will love. Mrs. Brown lives on a farm with a cow, two pigs, three ducks, and a yak. When Mrs. Brown got hurt riding her bicycle, she was sent to the hospital where she had to stay for a few days. She sent a letter to all the animals letting them know she will be back soon and to be good. The animals voted to move into Mrs. Brown's house while she was gone and oh boy did that turn into chaos. The animals rang the doorbell non-stop to hear the chiming noise, flushed the toilet one hundred times, ran up the stairs to slide down the railings, they all put on Mrs. Brown's different gowns, painted the house to match the barn and many other silly things. When Mrs. Brown finally arrived home, she climbed into her bed not knowing that all the animals were in there and the bed came crashing down. Ambulances came rushing and took Mrs. Brown back to the hospital along with all her animals. This time, Mrs. Brown was not alone in the hospital, all her animals were in beds next to her with casts on from falling off the bed. I think this is a cute, silly book for young readers and they will definitely enjoy the humor and get a good laugh. ( )
