This had my three-year-old cracking up, though I found it slightly disturbing as it's mostly jokes about eating human children. ( )

A refreshing twist to the classic story of "The Boy Who Called the Wolf". ( )

This book is very similar to the boy who cried wolf books, but it is flipped. The wolf throughout the story cried that he saw a boy, so his parents would go look for the boy and the same boring food would be ruined, and then he could just eat snacks for dinner. Once he cried boy to my time his parents did not believe him. ( )

This is a hilarious retelling of the traditional tale of The Boy who Cried Wolf. In the story, Little Wolf hates everything his mother cooks for dinner including Chocolate Moose, Three Pig Salad and Lamb burgers. All he wants to eat is BOY. But, as his father tells him, boy is hard to come by these days. In order to avoid eating his dinner, he starts shouting "Boy" on his walks home from school causing his parents to tire themselves out hunting for boys that aren't there. The father figures out that his son is lying so when a real live boy enters their house, Little Wolf is surprised that his parents no longer believe him. The illustrations, word play and story make for a great read aloud! ( )

The Wolf that Cried Boy is comparable to the book "The Boy that Cried Wolf" since in each story the boy or the wolf is fibbing about what they "see." In The Wolf that Cried Boy the young wolf lives with his mom and dad where he must eat meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner that he hates! For example: Straw oatmeal, Lamburgers, Chocolate moose, etc. Young wolf was disgusted by the meals his mom would make and would complain and complain! Eventually papa wolf got so upset that he told the young wolf "I know you want boy but it's hard to come by these days, I'll tell you what if you find a boy tell me and we will chase him and cook him! For now eat your supper!" The young wolf got so excited that he wouldn't have to eat these horrid meals that instead of truly seeing a boy he would pretend he saw a boy. So the young wolf would come home from school yelling "BOY! THERE'S A BOY IN THE WOODS!" He did this same routine multiple days so that the meal his mama would make would already be bad by the time they got done chasing the imaginary boy. Eventually mama caught onto the young wolf's game and told papa. The same day young wolf came home with his usual plan to "lie." Instead something else happened, the young wolf saw 15,17,20 boys right by his cottage! The young wolf started screaming as loud as he could "BOY!" His papa and mama just stayed in the house not listening to the wolf pup. The wolf pup came into the house still screaming about the boy and papa said to young wolf " we don't believe you, you have tricked us one too many times." Except young wolf was telling the truth this time, and his parents wouldn't believe him. I think this is a great book to read to young children first grade through third grade because it shows the students that when you joke too much or fib too much people don't believe you and won't want to be your friend. I plan to purchase this book and use it in my classroom to teach life lessons. ( )
