"My homework ate my cat." This story starts when Samantha's (robotic) cat ran away to 1776 and Sam, Fred, and Joe find themselves with George Washington and other generals during the Revolutionary war. “Whenever we time warp we manage to get into trouble." The characters become part of the crossing of the Delaware River. This is a quest of preserving history and finding "the book" that allows them to travel back to Christmas at home. This is the first book I have read in the Time Warp series. I enjoy the humorous component in Sciezka's writing. There's just enough information to get the gist of the historical time. ( )

This is a great book to complement a unit on Famous Americans. It gives kids a different perspective and helps them put themselves back in the time of George Washington. Good chapter book to get kids reading.

I love Scieszka's books. First off, Joe does not understand how the time warp process works. So, Scieszka's readers get a description of the process using "The Book," the object that transports the protagonists in time. I especially like Joe's nickname for George Washington: "the man on the one-dollar bill." It's also quite funny when Joe, Fred, or Samantha mention something from their time periods, such as the New York Yankees or tater tots, to the eighteenth century historical figures.

This book is hilarious! As my introduction to The Time Warp Trio, Oh Say, I Can't See makes me want to go out and read the rest of Jon Scieszka's time travel series. This particular book describes how Fred, Joe, and Samantha (their friend Sam's great-granddaughter from the future) help George Washington cross the Delaware on Christmas Day in 1776.

I absolutely love Scieszka's humor. By making Joe the narrator of this book, Scieszka opens up the possibility for many antics. First off, Joe does not understand how the time warp process works. So, Scieszka's readers get a vague description of the process using "The Book," the object that transports the protagonists in time. I especially like Joe's nickname for George Washington: "the man on the one-dollar bill." It's also quite funny when Joe, Fred, or Samantha mention something from their time periods, such as the New York Yankees or tater tots, to the eighteenth century historical figures. It always prompts blank stares and a lot of awkward pauses.

Besides these hilarious moments, this book also educates children about an important event in the history of the US. It'd be a great addition to a juvenile library! ( )
