This was really rather dull for a MaryJanice Davidson book. The only reason its not getting a 1 rating from me is because I enjoy Davidson's writing style.

Princess Alex has turned into a walking stressed zombie due to her insomnia. The family psychiatrist has decided that a break from her normal surroundings might help, so she suggests Alex take a trip down to South Dakota to help out with the opening of an aquarium that their family is funding. When Alex gets there she meets Dr. Sheldon Rivers who is being a pissy bitch about royalty walking around his work place. Alex thinks his rudeness and grumpy behavior is hot and pounces on him. From then on out there's lots of sex and bickering by the two protagonists and a small side plot involving Jenny, Alex's handmaid/PR person.

My biggest problem with this book is that there was no conflict. The book is almost entirely motivated by Alex and Sheldon bickering at each other. I'm a fan of character driven stories, but not when their personalities never even clash. Everyone gets along, there's no real build up about Sheldon hating royals or even Alex's insomnia. In fact those two problems... the two that were supposed to be the biggest driving conflict in the book? Hardly got mentioned. Sheldon's attitude about rich people was mentioned once in the very beginning and then never brought up until the last couple of pages. As for Alex's insomnia. Yes we see that she's not sleeping through most of the book but really everyone is pretty meh about it so when it gets solved that's your attitude too. Even though towards the end I started missing her insomnia cause it turns out that was the one thing making her character interesting.

I predict that in a week I'll look at this book on my shelf and think "What the hell was this book about?" because nothing happens. And oh lordy, the next one in this series is in the mail to me and its too late to stop it. At least, they're quick reads. ( )

Okay there was more sex in this book then there was in the first and third put together, not that I am complaining. I really enjoyed this book and this series. The Royals are soooo funny. ( )

Book two in the Alaskan Royal Family series is hilarious. A good fun read. I found this book to be laugh out loud funny. I was able to suspend disbelief and just go with it. Having a Royal family with all their quirks and high-jinks exposed was a great escape from reality ( )

I actually read this series out of order (read book one, then book three, then book two), but this was still a fun, fast read that only took me about two hours to finish.

This installmant of the royal Baranov family from the country of Alaska centers around Princess Alexandria Baranov, the sister who saved her father's life at the end of THE ROYAL TREATMENT. Suffering from insomnia, nightmares, and a wee bit of paranoia after that event, King Al (along with the royal doctor, Dr. Pohl), decide that Alexandria could use some time away.

What ensues is Alex quickly arriving in North Dakota, even more quickly falling in lust with Dr. Sheldon "Shel" Rivers, lots of hot sex, royal misunderstandings, groveling, faster-than-the-speed-of-light courtships, and more sex.

If you like MJD's stories, you'll like THE ROYAL PAIN. If you want a bunch of character development, deep meaning, a lack of swearing, and the answers to the meaning of life, you won't find it within these pages.

All in all, a fun piece of fluff! ( )
