( ) Smith has a plain, bare-bones style that is oddly engaging. I read half the book in one sitting, and the rest, the next day. A book cover blurb calls the style minimalist, and it's apt. On the other hand, I would disagree with other blurbs that the book is funny or suspenseful. I found it a pleasant way to while away a few hours. This book is like "reading" a reality TV show about the residents of Appleby House. I've now read all of her published works, and would recommend "Misadventures" to be the best place to start if you're new to the author, although here she continues to make the mundane details of her very ordinary life ... compelling. This has got to be one of the most boring, pointless books I've ever read. It came to us through my late mother-in-law's library and I keep wondering if the poor woman was so desperate for something to read that she thought this was something worthwhile. I'm still rather confused by the fact that this was ever published at all. Truly mind-boggling in its badness. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
"Strange, unsettling, oddly moving" ("The Guardian"), this is Smith's charming, refreshingly candid account of a year spent in a shabby bed-sit in London's East End in the 1980s. No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
