This book is an excellent and exciting way for children to practice their math skills in a real life application by thinking about what you can buy for $1. Being told as a rhyming story takes the pressures of solving math away as you are enchanted with the rhymes. The little girl is exited to spend her allowance at the store but when given too many choices and ways she can split her dollar to buy more or less items, she gets overwhelmed and decides it is best to keep her dollar. I think this book is appealing to young children because the items the girl is considering buying are all items that young children would want, such as candy and fish. As a bonus the book even has a page full of coin slots to help you save your money! ( )

The little girl in the story is given a dollar for allowance and heads to the store to see what she could buy. The options seem to be endless as there are so many ways to make a dollar. She gets overwhelmed and pockets her dollar for a rainy day. This book is an engaging narrative to get students familiar with money, specifically the different ways to make a dollar. This presentation of the concept of money is easy for kids to understand because it deals with things they are familiar with, allowing them to make connections. One critique I have is that the prices in the story aren't as realistic anymore, which may make it harder for students to connect with the book. ( )

I really enjoyed The Big Buck Adventure a lot. This book is about a young girl who got a raise in her allowance and has a dollar to spend on whatever she wants at the store. She thinks it's going to be easy but, it turns out to be a disaster. She had so many different options to choose from and it stressed her out. She could've gotten 100 tongue twisters, or 10 gummy bears, 2o pickles, etc. There was so many options, she decided to keep her dollar and save it. The book was very creative and I liked how it rhymed the entire book. For me, it made it fun to read because I like books that rhyme. The illustrations were very colorful and it was very entertaining. This is a great book for kids who are old enough to understand money or for kids who are learning. This book is very realistic because everyday we use our math skills to figure out how much we could buy with the money we have. ( )

This story is about a little girl and her very big dollar that set out on a great adventure at the store. However, what seems like a pleasant afternoon of shopping soon turns difficult as she faces the challenge of her buying options becomes overwhelming. She doesn't know what to do. There are so many choices, but she only has one dollar. A fun and perfect example of how we use math in our daily lives. I think little kids will enjoy this because this occurs in every day life. ( )

The Big Buck Adventure is a humorous story about a young girl who receives one dollar for her allowance money and adventures to the store to see what she can buy with her buck. The young girl gets very overwhelmed because there are so many things she can buy at the store with her buck. Reading this book made me laugh, because the young girl could buy so many things with her dollar, and nowadays you can’t buy much for only a dollar. This would be a great book to read to students if the lesson was circulated around money. It would also be fun to come up with a fun activity after reading this book, such as giving students play money and letting them decide what they would buy from the store in this book if they were given a dollar.
