This brief, biographical account of Abraham Lincoln was informative and age appropriate for even young readers. I will admit, that history is not typically very interesting to me. If I have a choice, biographical or historical children's books are not my first choice. However, I did enjoy reading this book and I did indeed learn some things about the life of Abraham Lincoln. I think this book is a valuable addition to the classroom from which young readers can benefit. ( ) Summary: This is the biography of Abraham Lincoln. This biography focuses a lot of attention on his younger years. The book starts with saying that Lincoln did not start his life being powerful. He grew up in the woods in a log cabin that he and his father built. He did go to school but not for long because he had a lot of work to do on the farm. Although he was not in school he still was very smart and loved to read whenever he had a chance. Lincoln was also known to be a great storyteller. He ended up studying law as he got older because he wanted to help people. In 1861 he became the 16th president of the United States of America. Personal Reaction: I really liked this biography because I feel it really appeals to the younger reader. It is easy to read and I feel it is easy to understand. The illustrations go very well with the text. I have even read this book with my seven year old daughter and she enjoyed it. But what was even better about reading this with her was that she was able to easily recall the facts from the book. Classroom Extensions: 1. Have the students write a short report after reading this story to them. 2. Create a word search that contains words that pertain to Abraham Lincoln. Age: Primary Review: This book belongs to the biography genre because the content is about the facts of Abraham Lincoln’s childhood and the great things that he achieved. The plot of the book is very informative. It includes the main things that happened to him as a child and as an adult. For example, when he was seven, his family moved to Indiana; when he was nine, his mother passed away, etc. Media: watercolor sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
