This book promotes the child's ability to ask questions to help better their understanding of the world around them. It promotes the idea that you can ask proper questions and do research to find the answers you seek. It has beautiful illustrations and a good plot that will make the children feel good about themselves. I would read this to a second grade class.

Great book to get children asking questions throughout the whole book to figure out what the secret is that is revealed at the end.

Once, not so long ago, in the hills past the hollow, there lived a wise woman... The wise woman is so wise that people come from far and wide to learn the secret of her wisdom. "You will have to discover it for yourselves," she tells them. So they search and search, but there is nothing to be found! Is something strange going on? Perhaps the old woman is nothing but a mischief maker! Only one little girl named Jenny lags behind, her lingering eyes noticing things that the others don't. Will Jenny discover the secret that everyone else has missed? Acclaimed author Eve Merriam has written a wise and wonderful tale that speaks to the child in each of us.

There lives a wise old woman. The townspeople want to know the secret to her wisdom. They search everywhere on her land but cannot find it. Only one little girl discovers the secret to being wise, which is to always be curious about the world around you.

A community of people hear about a "wise woman" and they go on a journey to find her secret to wisdom. The little girl that travels with them is the only one that discovers the secret. This book, I imiagine, would captivate a young audience due to the mystery that it keeps throughout the book. A lesson on wisdom would be good to teach as well as teaching wisdom as a Tier 2 word. There was no author website nor publisher website but this website, http://www.jacketflap.com/pubdetail.asp?pub=9157, did support the publisher.
