Nessa is a young Inuit girl who goes out fishing with her grandmother, but they have to stay the night out in the wild because it is too late to head back for camp. During the night, Nessa's grandmother gets sick and they are not able to head back to their camp until she is feeling better. The story describes Nessa and how brave she has to be while protecting her grandmother from the wilderness while they wait for their family to come help them. Ages: 4 Source: Pierce College Ft. Steilacoom Library Nessa and her grandma catch many fish, but her grandma gets sick. Nessa watches over her and the fish. She protects her grandma and the fish from fox, wolves and a bear. He family then finds her and her grandma to bring them back to their community. I would use this book in my future classroom because it teaches about culture. This book is appropriate for grades 2-3. A little girl Nessa goes fishing with her grandmother. Her grandmother gets sick so Nessa stood up to all the animals that were going to eat there fish that they had caught until her family comes looking for them. I would use this book in my classroom because it show self defense and to stick up for your self and others. Good book for 1st - 5th graders. During a faraway fishing trip,young Nessa must protect the fish catch from a wolf and a bear when her grandmother falls ill. I like this book because Nessa grows up in the story and shows bravery.
