Some monsters are real. Miles away from the hectic city, Reed and Rebecca hike into the beautiful Northwester woods. They are surrounded by gorgeous mountains, waterfalls, and hundreds of acres of unspoiled wilderness. During their first night camping, an unearthly wail pierces the calm of the forest. Then something emerges from the dense woods. Everything that follows is a blur to Reed-except the unforgettable image of a huge creature carrying his wife into the darkness. Enter into deep wilderness where the rules of civilization no longer apply. A world where strange shadows lurk. Where creatures long attributed to overactive imaginations and nightmares are the hunters . . . and people are the hunted.… (más)

A captivating story that draws you right into the mystery and horror of what is going on in the forest. This book grabbed my attention from page one. It had me not wanting to put it down. With plenty of twists and turns it will keep you up late reading wanting to know what will happen next. My first book by this author but it definitely won't be my last. ( )

started out REALLY scary, then just got all non-scary. A good tale about bigfoot, a christian couple and mad scientist trying to prove evolution. I wanted more scary though. Very enjoyable though. Much more researched and thought out than The Oath and it really showed. ( )

I listened to the unabridged audio version of this book and there are some things an author shouldn't do and in this case Frank Peretti shouldn't have read his own book. He was a bit too dramatic where drama wasn't needed.

That being said; the story was good. Reed Shelton and his wife Beck were going to a survival camping trip. Beck had a stutter and didn't get out a lot. She was self conscious. Reed being a strong, out going type thought it would be good for his wife.

Enter the Big Foot, Sasquatch or were they really that? Beck disappears and spends quite a while with them as a prisoner? or something else to the one she named Rachel.

The hunt is on and the locals are sure its bear. None of them really listening to Reed telling them what he saw except for one or two. The tracker was a cocky guy who knew all and he had his own followers.

Cap a friend of Reed and Beck's investigates from a different perspective and finds out some very interesting facts and a very interesting lab which holds the key to everything. ( )

I will admit to not knowing this author is a Christian writer. I don't have a problem with Christian fiction, even though my views differ. However, a few things about this book annoyed me to know end once I realized this is Christian horror/suspense.

A) Beck spends a lot of time moaning over "why would God create such creatures."

B) There are these weird "look, I'm a good Christian" scenes in the book.

C) "Maybe God took it" is a really lame cop out.

The book is much too long, much too melodramatic, and crammed full of characters that are more like litter than window dressing. ( )
