Fiction. Literature. Mystery. Thriller. HTML:With just three days to prevent the assassination of the President, Army lawyer Sean Drummond races the clock in the high-stakes countdown of his career.
It looked like a mass execution: six people, systematically shot and killed in a private Washington mansion. One of the targets happened to be the White House Chief of Staff. But that wasn't the reason Sean Drummond was called in on the case. Newly enlisted in a CIA cell called the Office of Special Projects, the former Army lawyer was informed that the murders were just a warning. The killer had left a note: "You can't stop us. There will be others, and the President will be history in the next two days."
The clock is ticking. The hunt begins for the ultimate killer-for-hire-a brilliant, coldhearted professional with an insider's knowledge of Washington. For Sean Drummond, it's the greatest challenge of his career, a terrifying cat-and-mouse game with unthinkable consequences. If he fails, the world will never be the same-and one calculating killer will collect the $100 million bounty on the President's head.
The story of one shocking conspiracy, two fateful days, and an earth-shattering death threat, THE PRESIDENT'S ASSASSIN is a gripping and chillingly real novel from one of the world's premier writers.

Someone is killing off the people around the president. And has offered $100 million bounty for killing the president himself. The premise is good but the telling of the story is even better. I had never heard of this author before but it turns out that this is apparently the 5th in a series featuring Sean Drummond - a former Army lawyer. And the author is the son of Alexander Haig. Now I need to catch up on the other 4 books he's written! ( )

My favorite character and wiseass, Sean Drummond, is back. Someone has offered a $100 million bounty on the president's life and just to get everyone's attention, assassinates, in his home, the Chief of Staff and his family and the Secret Service detail assigned to their protection.

Haig nicely integrates some -- what I think -- pertinent information regarding the real world. While interviewing the major general in charge of the Army CID to help locate some missing weapons (specifically a Bouncing Betty and anti-tank missile) we learn that because of the enormous requirement for munitions in Afghanistant and Iraq, the Army has had to contract out security at the ports to civilian contractors who hire guards at $9.00 an hour and that given the amount of material being shipped (and later exploded) it was impossible to account for a lot of the explosives. That rings very true and is not particularly comforting.

Far-fetched plot, predictable ending. Nevertheless, I am a sucker for Sean Drummond, Haig's wise-cracking CIA/FBI/MP/JAG/CID jack-of-all investigative trades. Fun. ( )

This story was much more serious in tone that the prior Sean Drummond books, which took away from the opportunities for the character to wisecrack and play dumb. The story took on more of a police procedural framework than other books in the series. Finally, the "twist" in the plot was easy to guess far before it was revealed. An unfortunate letdown. ( )

A great book, narrated by a somewhat annoying character whom you grow to enjoy. CIA agent Sean Drummond is paired with a brilliant female FBI profiler to solve the continued murders of US Government officials, trying to stop the rampage before the president is ultimately killed. It ends with an incredible twist. Very engaging, very entertaining, and a good thinker of a book. ( )
