I loved this. I loved the lesson about how you can't just complain you actually need to take action. I think the lesson is very important for children to learn and even adults. I have always said you can't complain unless you do something about it and that is very much what this book teaches. I think it is also a way to make kids aware of the way that they act. I think after reading this there would be a lot less complaining in class because they would think about the book and realize what they are doing. I think there is also a chance that there could be some pretty good arguments against doing things that are planned because they will be trying to enact change but I am willing to take that risk. ( )

This was a super cute book about some kids that wanted a park to stay open later than five so instead of just complaining about it they decided that they would make a petition, which was headed-up by Carl, who was a pro complainer. Media-Water color ( )

Summary: This book meets the criteria for contemporary realistic fiction because of the petitioning that the students do to solve their issue. This is a modern way to solve a something you do not agree with. I would use this book in my classroom to teach kids about petitioning so that they know what their rights are as citizens. I would also use it to teach about the annoyance of complainers. Carl in this book cannot see the positive in anything. He is upset when the park closes at 5 pm and ends up petitioning for the park to stay open later. He also learns that complaining will not help fix a problem.
