Children discovering what a shadow is This is the story of 2 children and their journey to find shadows. They go to the beach,a baseball game, and fields to find shadows. On the journey shadows of dragonflies, bike wheels, and finally at the end while resting, they remove their shoes and place the tips of their toes together to form yet another shadow. Personal Reaction: I really liked the acrylic painting and the theme of shadows. Classroom Extension Ideas: 1. Have the children go outside and use chalk to trace the shadow of their friend. 2.Use the book to explain how sundial were used before clocks and watches were evented.Bring materials so the children can make their own sundials. This book is an example of realistic fiction because it takes us on a journey with two kids as they observe nature and shadows in the world around them. We see them interact both with each other and the world around them. The setting is vivid and it helps move the story along as the kids discover all different types of shadows from different things. The specific place and time is not given in the story as it makes it more universal for the readers. However, we do know that it is while the sun is out because there are shadows, and we do know certain locations where it takes place such as the beach, a baseball stadium, a field, and a river. The many different types of places helps to show many different types of shadows that exist in many different types of places. In that way, the setting helps to move the story along and it fits with the infomational side of the story in that these are all places where there are shadows and it gives specific places and objects which have shadows. Media: The illustrations are acrylics. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
