Having produced pastiches of Edgar Rice Burroughs' Mars series (Callisto) and Venus series (Green Star), it was perhaps inevitable that Lin Carter would adapt ERB's Pellucidar milieu. Carter's limited formula is becoming quite shopworn by this stage; the main cast of characters are the same off-the-shelf assembly used and reused in previous series - the handsome, outland hero, the disenfranchised or otherwise endangered princess (and serial kidnap victim), the stalwart, second-fiddle hero, the bluff chieftain, the conniving traitor, the unlikely ally from an opposing race, the flamboyant corsair captain, the snake-eyed (and/or shaven-pated) vizier (and/or wizard), they're all present and correct. Pterodactyls, sabre-tooth tigers, wooly mammoths etc are all here as well as you'd expect although the carnivorous triceratops is one you might not expect. Also present is another Carter cliche, a "war" that begins and ends with a single battle. About the only Carter staple missing (at this stage at least) is the ubiquitous flying machine, handy for getting heroes both in and out of trouble. Like most Carter novels though it's not too long and the action is brisk so if you like a bit of slightly illogical, far-fetched action and adventure and you aren't too fussy about how derivative it all is, this book will give you some entertainment. Of course, the story is serialised so when you get to the end you'll need to pick up the next installment to find out what happens next. One for die-hard Lin Carter fans of which I'm one I suppose. I wished he'd tried a bit harder in his fiction though instead of using other writers ideas wholesale and recycling his characters and plots relentlessly book after book, series after series. The Callisto series remains his best work in extended 'saga' mode but his best work overall is his early standalone stuff from the 60s. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

I believe I??ve come to the point in my life where I need never pick up another lost world pulp fantasy novel. Seriously, theyÂ??re all running together in my mind.
In Journey to the Underground World, Lin Carter is (as usual) channeling Edgar Rice Burroughs. In Carter?s version of an underground world, an adventurer named Eric Carstairs meets up with a paleontologist named Dr. Potter who thinks he knows how to find a legendary land under the earth. They fly a helicopter down a volcano and discover Zanthodon, a world where dinosaurs, wooly mammoths and saber-toothed tigers threaten the Neanderthals and Cro-magnons who also live there. There are creatures to fight, ?savages to outwit, and (of course) a beautiful maiden with a ?lithe young body, ?perfect breasts, ?smooth thighs and ... Read More:
