Robert Ervin Howard (January 22, 1906 - June 11, 1936) was an American author who wrote pulp fiction in a diverse range of genres. He is well known for his character Conan the Barbarian and is regarded as the father of the sword and sorcery subgenre. This is one of his western stories. This follows a similar pattern to most Elkins tales, in that he feels obliged to do something on behalf of a demanding relative, only for all the chaos he endures to be futile. It’s an effective formula, though this story is one of the weaker attempts.
Still, the blend of humour and violence are enough to make it worth checking out. (
