The ever-elegant Mr. Satie, along with master chef mouse Ffortusque Ffollet, Esquire, arrives from Paris to visit his niece and nephew, Rosalie and Conrad. While Fortie heads for the kitchen to cook a fabulous French dinner, Mr. Satie tells the children about his Paris adventures.

In Paris, as Satie and Fortie sat in their favorite café, Pablo came along and told them about his new paintings. Gertrude and Alice would show his paintings at rue de Fleurus at their regular Sunday-night gathering at Gertrude’s Salon.

Everyone came to Gertrude's Salon to see Pablo's new paintings. When Henri came in, having just returned from Nice, he’d brought paintings to show, too.

Pablo put his paintings along one wall; Henri put his along the other wall. Gertrude decided there would be a contest and pressed Mr. Satie into service to serve as a judge.

Which artist’s paintings will win? Pablo? Henri? What will the fair and honest and true Mr. Satie decide?

Tomie dePaola has captured the friendships and rivalry between the two movements within the art world that were happening simultaneously. Monet and his impressionist work, and Picasso with is cubism. Interestingly Mr. Satie is a cat! Lovely renderings of Paris make this a terrific read. ( )

When Mr. Satie comes home from Paris to visit his nieces and nephews they cannot wait to hear about his travel experiences. He tells him the art battle and drama that happened in Paris and they are instantly intrigued. Satie is an artist and when he went to a museum his art gets challenged by another artist. They battle to see who has the best works of art and it ends up being a draw. This was a really cute book and I love that the characters were mice and cats. While it was a fiction book it still embodies some of Paris's culture and people. ( )

Bonjour, Mr. Satie is the story of a cat judging two paintings to see which artist is better and declaring it a draw. This is a good book to teach that not everything is a competition. ( )

Mr. Satie is telling his stories of Paris to his nephew and niece. Uncle Satie goes onto tell his ravish stories of Paris to them. I didn't find this book very interesting. It wasn't entirely intriguing and the illustrations were kinda dull. I don't think I would want to read this book to students. ( )
