I usually like the historical aspects Ms Kearsley weaves into her novels but neither was properly developed. I wanted to learn more about the two Isabellas. Overall, an unsatisfactory read. While Emily is alone at the hotel they have engaged, she meets a number of fellow tourists and several town inhabitants, among them two handsome and charming gentlemen. In true Mary Stewart fashion, we are sure one of them is a villain, but which? There has, of course, been a murder, Harry is missing, people are suspicious and there is an ancient mystery regarding a lost treasure. You get the drift…but as cliche as it sounds, it was fun and clever and enchanting. Now, back to the reading list.
