Is it theoretically possible for closed timelike curves ("time machines") to exist? -- the relevant doings of such scientists as Gðdel (rotating universes), Tipler (infinite cylinders), Gott (cosmic-string passings), Thorne (wormholes), Deutsch (interuniverse transfers), Hawking (chronology protection conjecture), and Novikov (self-consistency principle). For an author whose doctorate is not in physics but in English literature, there are few omissions or lapses of authoritativeness. A good one.
