The text formatting is a little boring compared with other examples, but the story and illustrations make up for it. Daniel loves to look at the pictures, which are detailed and vibrant enough to offer something different at each reading. I worry that an older child will notice the danger of watching flying cows from below, as falling cow-pats could ruin the view. I'm annoyed at every reading that the representation of gender (always a deliberate effect, especially in children's literature), is overtly, jarringly feminist. Finally, the overall moral, that you can do anything you put your mind to, troubles my literal mind, but the overall effect is one of "whimsy," and you just have to sit back and enjoy the flock of fluttering cattle.
