Wow! What a book! This book was dense… and by dense I mean unbelievably long, action-packed, full of revelations, it could (and in my opinion should) have been 2 books. I honestly don’t remember the first 10-15% of the book.
On the other hand, the story was mind-blowing, creative, realistic (special thanks to the references to recent global events), it just made me question everything in our world. Even though a lot of times I felt too dumb for this story, I really enjoyed its philosophical aspects and I hope I’ll have a chance to read more from this author in the future.
3.5 ⭐️ rounded down.

What did I just read..... It's been three days since I put this book down and my head is still spinning. I loved how suspenseful this story was but it was just way too long and drawn out. The foul language in it really took me by surprise for some reason. I guess I've never read a novel quite like this before! I stuck with this novel in hopes that the ending would be mind-blowing but sadly, it was a bit of a let down and I feel like I missed a lot of information somewhere. Since it had so many good qualities, I still gave this novel 3 stars. ( )

***3.5 star rating***
The Rebirth by V.P. Evans…. wow what a story. My first ebook I’ve read in quite a long time but it was definitely worth it. The book is a mix of some of my favorite books, The Firm mixed with the DaVinci Code and includes twists and turns of many classic thriller mysteries I love. The plot the stories follow across the events of one evening help readers remain engaged. There are narrative sections that seem to deep dive into character’s back stories that sometimes felt like they almost deviated a bit too far from the main plot. However, the author brings you back to the plot line eventually. This is also the first book I’ve read that’s been published recently enough that it is able to refer to recent global events. I would like to add that these references do not feel forced in the plot which is appreciated.
This is definitely a book I would see myself picking up in the library or ultimately buying a physical copy of for myself.

Review of eBook

Dermot Walsh knows his time has come. But before the hitman’s bullet claims his life, he manages to grab his phone and send a message.

Jason Roneros approaches Oscar Brown, the CEO of Chicago’s Channel Seven, telling him that there is no more time, that the Imperatores are hunting for him. He asks Oscar to arrange a live television interview during which he will misdirect the hunters. It’s a dangerous plan, one that doesn’t work out quite as Jason and Oscar had hoped.

Jason finds himself on the run with an old friend, one he hasn’t seen in a decade: police consultant Mark Gilliam. Over the course of this one night, tangling everything up in past nightmares and a desperate race to reveal the truth. The Imperatores, men and women of power, hide in the shadows, manipulating.

Can Jason succeed in his quest to reveal them to the world? Will exposure end their power? Or will Jason and Mark meet the same end as Dermot Walsh? Can anything bring down those powerful men and women hiding in the shadows?

=========

Tension and suspense fill the pages of this dark, atmospheric tale. Intriguing characters, long-held secrets, and the quest for power all play a part in the narrative. A strong sense of place, a compelling plot, and unexpected revelations, all work together to pull the reader into the narrative.

There is much to appreciate here in this finely-crafted tale. Thought-provoking, dark, and gritty, it’s a captivating story that keeps the pages turning as fast as possible. However, the excessive, unnecessary overuse of crude language throughout the telling of this grim tale is sure to be offensive to many readers and it lowers the rating for this book.

"I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough . . . hard to believe it is a debut novel."

All the twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat, and I found the story engaging; I never knew what to expect next. The tension builds up to an unexpected climax which I did not see coming, and it was a big surprise to me.
