This book is for 40+ women who are per-menipausal and I definitely fit in that range.
My doctor suggested I try fasting to lower my cholesterol, so I thought this book would give me more information on the process, to see whether it would suit me.

The first five chapters go into details about the science and background of intermittent fasting. As a beginner I was hoping for a less scientific paper version, and not wait this long to get into the nitty gritty of what it actually was in layman's terms. I passed quickly over the first five chapters and only picked out those things of interest to me, as a beginner, and those things that resonated with the type of health changes I was looking for. In the sixth chapter we finally learn about the different types of fasting choices we can choose from. There's only a couple of sample menus - I would have hoped to see a few more. The recipes are interesting, and have photographs which is helpful. I would have liked to see a table of foods with a rating of their suitability for this diet - eg, green, yellow, red.

I came away with the knowledge that this kind of diet is definitely not for me. This book was not very helpful for me as somebody new to IF. It was 70% scientific explanation and 30% how to apply the information. It would be more suited to somebody who wants to know the scientific knowledge behind why this particular diet lifestyle works.

First of all thanks very much, as always, to the author and Library Thing for the opportunity of reading this book in exchange for a fair review. I'm 58, need to shed some weight (about 13 kg) after the pandemic, and though for now I'm only trying and adjusting (it's not so easy), at least I'm not gaining more weight or not so quickly.
Because of a genetic problem, I have always had problems with my thyroid's hormones and sex hormones, so it's even more difficult for me, apart from being "picky" with my food.

The advices are quite good. I love most of the supplements this book includes: green tea, dark chocolate... and as for supplements, omega-3 with lutein for my eyesight, and liquid collagen with hyaluronic and folic acids (I find i prefer it in liquid form, not capsules or powder).

That I don't lose weight as much or fast as i would like is mainly my fault, the advice in the book is good, but for example, i love fruit but don't like my veggies at all, i now eat some salad with lettuce, a little fruit (tangerines, pineapple, quince), a little tender cheese, a few crusts of bread, a few olives... to many "fews"... but no raw tomato or onion, which i don't like at all. I grill my meat instead of frying it... but still love my sweets, and occasionally have deep fried things.
Also, another problem is that i don't sleep as much as I should, and i know that doesn't help weight loss. But at least i don't graze during the night ours.

I found my preferred eating window is 11 to 20 hours approx., i go quite late to bed, and love breakfast, so the best method for me is the 14/10 hours one.

Will stick to the 10/14 window/method, and hopefully, little by little, will improve. Don't have problems with sticking to it every day. ( )

"The Power of Timing: A Guide to Managing Hormones and Losing Body Fat" offers a refreshing perspective on weight loss and overall well-being for women going through the challenges of aging and menopause. The author, whose name is not specified, presents a unique approach that emphasizes the importance of timing when it comes to eating and managing hormone imbalances.

What sets this book apart is its departure from strict fad diets and unrealistic exercise plans. Instead, the author focuses on the concept of timing meals to optimize hormone balance and energy levels. This approach not only offers a more sustainable and enjoyable path to weight loss but also addresses the specific challenges that women face during menopause.

The writing style is clear and engaging, making it accessible to readers of various backgrounds. The author provides a thorough explanation of the hormonal changes that occur during menopause and how they impact weight management. By understanding the science behind these changes, readers are empowered to make informed decisions about their dietary habits.

The book does an excellent job of debunking common myths and misconceptions surrounding weight loss for women in midlife. It emphasizes the importance of a balanced and nutritious diet while also highlighting the significance of timing meals to align with the body's natural rhythms. The approach feels sensible and grounded, offering a realistic and sustainable solution to achieving optimal health.

The inclusion of practical tips and strategies is another strength of this book. The author provides actionable advice on how to incorporate timing principles into daily routines, making it easy for readers to implement changes. The guidance is accompanied by personal anecdotes and success stories, which adds a relatable and motivating aspect to the book.

One potential drawback is that the author's name is not provided, which may raise questions about their credentials and expertise in the field. Including this information would have enhanced the book's credibility and allowed readers to further research the author's background.

Overall, "The Power of Timing: A Guide to Managing Hormones and Losing Body Fat" is a valuable resource for women navigating the challenges of aging and menopause. The book presents a refreshing and evidence-based approach to weight loss, focusing on the importance of timing meals to manage hormone imbalances effectively. With its clear writing style and practical tips, this guide offers a realistic and sustainable path to improved health and well-being. I recommend it to women seeking a new perspective on their diet and fitness journey during midlife. ( )

Thorough insight provided about what is intermittent fasting. I liked the chapter that shared multiple periods of fasting to find the timing that would suit my lifestyle, and give me the best chance of sticking with the program. I also enjoyed the menu options to round-out the whole program. ( )
