Fantasy. Fiction. Romance. Thriller. HTML:Meet car mechanic and coyote shapeshifter Mercy Thompson, star of Patricia Briggs's #1 New York Times bestselling series. Being a lowly "walker" in a world of vampires, werewolves, and fae once kept her safe. But Mercy's bark-and bite-are not so harmless any more...

Though Mercy Thompson can shift her shape into that of a coyote, her loyalty never wavers. So when her former boss and mentor, Zee, asks for her help, she's there for him. A series of murders has rocked a fae reservation, and Zee needs her unique gifts, namely her coyote sense of smell, to sniff out the killer.

But when Zee is accused of murdering the suspect Mercy outed, he's left to rot behind bars by his own kind. Now it's up to Mercy to clear his name, whether he wants her to or not.

Mercy's loyalty is under pressure from other directions, too. Werewolves are not known for their patience, and if Mercy can't decide between the two she cares for, Sam and Adam may make the choice for her...

Still enjoying it but hoping that it doesn't lose my interest like Hamilton's series did. Their were moments I was a little worried. My wife still really loves them. This was almost a 3 star for me. Will see with book 4. It will be my wife's first purchase on her new Kindle 2. ( )

Zee has been left as a scapegoat by his own people, but Mercy is having none of it!
*Trigger warning*, this book touches upon a darker theme sexual assault (though not graphic). In my opinion, the author has done a very good job writing how Mercy handled it. But still, be warned.

Worldbuilding:
Back in the world we know and love by now, the author manages to write all the scenes with such skill, I love it! Everything was clear and well detailed, perfect for staying immersed in the story. We learned a lot about the fae, which after book 2 gave some welcome insights.

Character development:
Sam or Adam, that is the choice Mercy has to make because both of them are pushing each other's buttons and something is going to blow if she doesn't choose soon... or well, one or the other is going to die.
We learned some more about Zee and Uncle Mike, and some other interesting characters which I'm sure we will see in later instalments (yay).
After reading the book, you realise what a strong and caring woman Mercy is. She fights for her friends and those she sees as her family.
As always, all characters feel real and believable. I was happy we met more of the fae, but hopefully, next time we go back to the vamps, I missed Stefan :D

Pacing and flow:
What a ride... it felt a bit slower than the previous instalments, though there was always that sense of urgency beneath everything that went on.
I read the book in one go, I just had to know. I mean, yes, I know there are more books, but you don't think about that while you're reading about everything that went down, trust me. Great balance between all the action and conversation.

The book:
The book was well written with no (noticeable) errors. There is sex described. The book is 287 pages long, spread over 13 chapters and told from Mercy's point of view.

Final thoughts:
This book had me in tears, the one scene with Ben... you'll understand when you get there. ( )

Why I gave this book after the first read 3 stars I don't know. Since I really liked it this second time around I changed it to 4 stars.

In the first book the werewolves society was central to the story. In the second book the vampire society was central and now it is the turn of the fae society. And it was an interesting read. I love fairy tales and I really like it when I see traces of them in a story. It was very nicely done and in combination with the great characters made for a very good time with this book. ( )

This series is my favorite.
In this book Mercy heads to Fairytown to help out Z and Uncle Mike as repayment for using their gifts and killing a 2nd vampire in the last book. She's thrown right into the middle of "Fae Business" and has to see about getting Z released from jail and not being offered up as "tribute" so that the humans don't get involved.
She also learns a little more about how werewolves and mates work. She thought she knew it all but obviously growing up adjacent to the pack they didn't tell her everything. (it's a little frustrating) But Adam has his reasons for not telling her mostly b/c she'll rabbit. Samuel never told her b/c when he was first involved with her she was 16. hmmmm. Mercy finally figures out that she's in love with Adam (though we've seen it in the past 2 books) She is scared out of her mind and doesn't want to lose herself and be "one of the followers". But she realizes that part of it is that she wants him. She's just seriously freaked about the unknown.
She also realizes her feelings for Sam is just family.. attractive but not the man for her... he also realizes that and stops tormenting Adam. (again I'd love to be a fly on the wall in their conversations)
Some horrible things happen in this book but I won't go into detail but I have to say - I get so teary eyed EVERY time I read the part where Adam and Ben are talking while Mercy is coming off the fairy juice. I super heart love Ben.
I love when Adam tells her if she runs he will follow and be there. ( )
