This would make a great earyl fall read cause it had some mystery and spooky elements but not scary. It was really nice story that focsued less on the side plots and more on the dynamics between thre girls. I thought it was fun read with a mystery undertone and i loved that it focused on maryane who is my favorite character so of the plot elements mystery wise was not strong but it was more about the girl dynamics!! so excited for next book in the series!! Mary Anne is thrilled to get some mail addressed to her but once she sees it's just a chain letter, she throws it away. But then she and other members of the Baby-Sitters Club start coming across one annoying nuisance after another... Is it just ordinary bad luck piling up at once or is there a curse at play? As they get closer to Halloween night, the whole BSC starts getting more superstitious and worried. Despite being one of the new graphic adaptations, this book felt dated. I'm not sure if modern kids even know what a chain letter is. When the BSC visit the library, there's still a physical card catalog (instead of an OPAC) and one illustration shows not only a landline but a rotary phone at Mary Anne's house! I'm wondering if some of this is lost on the intended audience. This book also had more "darn"s than previous titles and less of the positive messages. There is a nice part where the BSC vows to face everything together no matter what, but their usual mature and responsible ways are less on display here. The resolution could have been a little neater too. This book has yet another illustrator/adaptor and I admit to not always loving the illustration style. Some of the figure drawings just look more stylized than realistic, which granted has always been the case in these adaptations, but it's just more so than usual. That all being said, it was still an entertaining enough read and I intend to read the next one in the series whenever it comes out. For unlucky number 13 in the graphic novel series, the Baby-Sitters Club panic about bad luck and superstitions when Mary-Ann won't forward a chain letter and is anonymously sent a bad-luck charm. And it's all just in time for Halloween! From my perspective, it's too cheesy what with all the convolutions necessary to make the plot work and still deliver a pat ending, but I know children are a cowardly superstitious lot so this will probably thrill their little fears and assumptions. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

Mary Anne should never have thrown away that chain letter she got in the mail. Ever since she did, bad things have been happening to everyone in the Baby-sitters Club. With Halloween coming up, Mary Anne's even more worried -- what kind of spooky thing will happen next? Then Mary Anne finds a new note in her mailbox: Wear this bad-luck charm, it says. OR ELSE. Mary Anne has to follow the note's instructions. But who sent the charm? And why did they send it to Mary Anne? The BSC might never see an end to their bad luck if they don't solve this mystery soon!
