This event is popular history in France and the UK but largely unknown at best in Germany. I heard about it in a book forum online about 3 years ago, and shortly after, Jürgs published his book. Jürgs is a journalist, not a historian, and it shows in his writing, and in the way he approaches the issue, but this is an eminentely readable account of the "christmas truce" 1914. He draws from sources from all countries (Germany, UK, France, Belgium and others). I never thought of visiting the battlefields of the Great War -it is not something Germans usually do, you know- but Jürgs sparked my interest in going there and for example listening to the Peace Carrillon at Messines.
