A slim cookbook at 101 pages before the resources and index, it does a brief survey of slow cooker meals from the United States, Mexico, Great Britain, France, Italy, Greece and India. Each recipe had a brief introduction. Not every recipe had a picture, but that doesn't affect me as I read the ingredients. Some recipes did require some prepping, such as browning meat or sauteing onions. But in general, a lot of the dishes looked good to me: Tamale Pie, Chicken in Peanut and Chile Sauce, Scotch Broth, Bean Soup from the Greek chapter, Lamb Stew with Spinach. I will admit I have not tried any of the recipes yet, but will be writing a few down before the book goes back to the library. ( ) Alley's book works best for those of us who have time for preparation, but as she points out, the browning steps can be skipped if need be, but expect a less complex flavor. Here are a few sample recipes that I've tried and liked: Chicken Piperade [chicken with bell peppers], Tarragon Chicken, French Split Pea Soup, Italian Pot Roast, White Truffle Risotto, Bread Pudding, Tuscan White Bean Soup, Baked Eggplant. Her tips are useful, her recipes simple, and most importantly for a slow cooker book, the timing and amounts work out. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
