I enjoyed the story, though I didn't realize it was the second book in the series until I received it. Oops. The adventure was enjoyable. That said, the writing itself was very plain and felt amateur. There was a lot of "telling" and not "showing" (i.e. the author stated a lot of things outright that should have been explained through scene) and some redundancy, as well as stating the some thing more than once. (See what I did there?) It's a good start but could use some development. Esta reseña ha sido escrita por los Primeros Reseñadores de LibraryThing. I won this book through the Early Reviewers Batch group. Now the plot line was interesting, the puzzles and how they were solved were clever. I liked that previously learned knowledge help Tobias solve them and it wasn't some mysterious magic skill he suddenly learned (like in other stories). I did find the pacing of book rushed at times when it didn't need to be and sadly some of the view points to me was rather off putting. The whole women/girls need protecting trope needs to be put to rest. And I found the romance part of it was rather forced/ shoehorned in. It's a nice weekend read if you like treasure hunting stories without any superhero strong bad guys. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

The start of this novel is a bit disorienting, as you are thrown into this world with no idea of who the characters are or what has happened before the story starts. (I have not read the first book in this series, so that may shed some light on the situation though). Once I connected with Tobias as a protagonist, it picked up, and I wanted to see where his journey took him. Overall, the story provides a fun adventure with some mild peril. I did enjoy reading. ( )
