The format is appealing, the illustrations representative and non-nightmare-causing. Content and text are displayed in a colourful, original structure, and with increased variation from page to page. I found this an excellent strategy to keep young readers entertained and engaged. The writing style is similar to nursery rhymes and suitable for native English speakers. Non-natives will find certain references and rhymes less easy to fully understand. ( )

An absolutely beautifully illustrated Childrens book for adults too. Learning the abcs through cool monstrous animals. Not cute and not scary. Perfect ( )

What a delight! My 3 year old is currently obsessed with all manner of cryptids and mythical creatures, and this volume is now one of his favorites. The rhymes for each monster entry are wonderful and wow do I love the illustrations. They are each so different and SO beautiful. I change my mind about my favorite every time we read this book! I’ve had a great time reading The Book of Monsters and know we will continue to read it over and over again.

The best thing about this book was the cute and quirky illustrations! They felt very fresh and I could imagine talking them over with a young child. What did not work so well for me was the prose. It seemed rather too mature for young children for which I assumed it was intended. The format was erratic although I rather liked the lack of rhyming and the quirky letter positioning . Thanks for a chance to enjoy this picture book. ( )
