Interesting - bagan slowly - got better when I realised it was based on a real person and written by a biologist - still rather too much detail of reproductive systems but an insight into how science was done at that time - pathos of dying blind girl wasn't overdone

An interesting story about the British man who travelled to north Queensland to "discover" the truth about the platypus. He also forms a relationship with a pair of sisters, one of which is blind, and the other is an aboriginal person. Really bizzar and disappointing ending. ( )

I didn't enjoy this book as much as A Guide to the Birds of East Africa. Skimmed through lots of the platypus dissections. Drayson's descriptions of the (living!) Australian wildlife in the area were interesting. His telling of the pointless massacre of an Aboriginal tribe was very tragic, but these stories need to be told. ( )

Based on the true story of a young Scottish scientist who travels to Australia to find out if the platypus lays eggs. Entertaining read - particularly recommended if you are interested in the flora and fauna of Australia. ( )
