When a poor university student moves into a house on Rue d'Auseil, he often hears strange, otherworldly music. Making an effort to discover the source of the music, he befriends an odd old man, Erich Zann, who performs in his room at all hours of the day. But when the student receives private concerts from Zann, he begins to realize that the songs are more powerful than any music from this world. H.P. Lovecraft's writing served as the basis for what is now called "The Cthulhu Mythos," a universe created by Lovecraft and subsequent writers--most famously Lovecraft's publisher August Derleth--that centered around the horror of "The Great Old Ones." The Cthulhu Mythos has become influential in popular culture and has inspired numerous books, comics, films, and games. HarperCollins brings great works of literature to life in digital format, upholding the highest standards in ebook production and celebrating reading in all its forms. Hideous beings from space (?) torment an old mute viola master. Explanation ripped away by the wind, but that kind of worked here. I'm thinking about liking this one.

(Moved 2015 review to the individual work Sept. 2017 to make room to review the collection under its own entry.) ( )
