I Comienzaen 1583 con las guerras entre tribus indias americanas , luego relata la llegada de los conquistadores ingleses en el siglo XVII, luego el periodo de de esclavitud , los ataques piratas, la Revolución de Independencia y la Guerra Civil , abarca grandes eventos del siglo XX como el caso Watergate para terminar el relato hisórico en 1978. Una brillante versión novelada de la formación de Estados Unidos.
