When archaeology student Omorphia takes up residence at the estate of the disfigured occultist known only as The Beast, she uncovers clues to her own mysterious past, while spiralling into a world of alien races and ghouls and strange science. This is the classic fairy tale Beauty and the Beast, recast as a vision of Cosmic Horror set in 1930's New England. An imagined lost work of the Weird Fiction master, adapted in graphic novel form. A rich recluse promises to make a big donation to Miskatonic University on the condition that a promising young female archaeology student there -- Omorphia, which is Greek for "beauty" -- submits to an internship in his home. Could she possibly see past his tentacles, pincers, and primal urge to have her spawn his monstrous offspring and fall for him? Or will the ghouls or old gods take her first?
A brief recap is given of "The Dunwich Horror" as this is basically a sequel to that, with the same professors who faced the Whatelys helping Omorphia in her struggles. I'm not a fan of Lovecraft, so that does nothing for me, but perhaps others will care. ( )
