This purports to teach us something about animals' habitats and survival strategies, but doesn't really. It's not just people who would bask in the heat and rejoice in the snow" but, rather, all animals who need a variety of seasons and weather events.

I also found the illustrations cute, but a little too much, too big and bold. The book would work ok for a group of toddlers, but I think it would be too overwhelming for lapsit.

I did like the rhythm and vocabulary of the free verse - beautifully written text.

But one warning for sensitive families - the first critter we meet is a frog. The second is a weasel, who pounces on the frog, at which point is typed the word 'breakfast!' I'm ok with that, because it's good science, and real. But if you avoid thinking about carnivores, you might want to avoid this." ( )

This book is about different animals and their characteristics. It names a variety of animals, and it would be good for a young class so they could discuss all of the different animals. This book is definitely for a very young class. The illustrations are good. It is illustrated by Dorothy Donohue. ( )
